A sealed Japanese disk version of The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Fantasy is currently up for auction at Heritage Auctions. At the time of reporting, the item had a bid of $10,500, with 12 days remaining until the auction's end. This amount reflects the current bid, not the final sale price.
The game was released in Japan in January 1986 on the Nintendo Famicom Disk System, predating the NES cartridge version launched in 1987. The "Disk System" text on this copy is yellow; this was later changed to white, with the yellow lettering serving as an identifier for earlier production runs.
The item remains sealed, with minor scuffs on the seal sticker, and has received a CGC grade of 9.2 A+. Recent sales prices for different versions of the same game have ranged from $1,187 to $26,568. One high-priced sale also featured the yellow lettering but carried a higher grade of 9.4 A++. These records serve as references, but the final price for this auction will only be determined once the gavel falls.
