Nerial, the developer behind Reigns under Devolver Digital, has announced it will cease game development as a studio and enter a dormant state. Founders Tamara and François Alliot stated that they will continue to develop games independently.
In a statement on social media, the two founders said the decision was made jointly with their partners at Devolver. They described this as the end of "Nerial as we know it." Team members will be seeking new opportunities.
Founded in 2013, Nerial gained attention for its strategy game Reigns, which centers on binary swipe-based decisions. Since then, the studio has produced several sequels and spin-offs, including collaborations tied to Game of Thrones and The Witcher. It also developed Card Shark, themed around 18th-century French card cheating, and House of Desire, a narrative game simulating reality TV production.
Devolver Digital acquired Nerial in 2021. Nerial laid off 40% of its staff in April 2025, and Devolver returned to being a private company in 2026.
