Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that Ace Combat 8: Hresvelgr will launch globally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on October 2, 2026, alongside the release of its launch trailer. This marks the first mainline entry in the Ace Combat series in seven years.
Shortly after launch, physical copies were already selling out across Japan. Citing SteamDB data, the media outlet reported that the game's concurrent player count on Steam approached 40,000, roughly triple that of its predecessor.
Developed by Bandai Namco Aces using Unreal Engine 5 and proprietary technology, the game continues the series' flight shooter gameplay, featuring a variety of real-world fighter jets. Clouds, terrain, and weather changes also affect aerial combat. Set in the series' fictional world, the story follows the occupation of the Usean Federation, with players taking on the role of an ace pilot callsign "Hresvelgr," fighting alongside members of Joker Squadron against the Republic of Sotoa.
The multiplayer mode supports cross-platform play, featuring both cooperative and competitive content. The virtual airbase can host up to 100 players simultaneously, with online modes offering separate progression and rewards. The PREMIUM ACE PASS can be purchased separately or obtained through the Digital Deluxe Edition.
