4A Games has announced that Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will receive next-gen updates in October, available free of charge to existing owners. The PC version is scheduled for update on October 22, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are planned for October 29. The announcement also mentioned that the Metro series has surpassed 50 million copies sold worldwide.
The update will enhance the audiovisual performance of both games on modern hardware, including animations, audio, environmental details, textures, and lighting. Console versions will offer a 4K 60fps mode, as well as a 4K 120fps mode achieved through resolution upscaling.
Different platforms will also receive corresponding features: PlayStation 5 Pro supports PSSR, Xbox Series X supports TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing, and the Xbox platform supports spatial audio. In terms of controllers, the update adds support for DualSense adaptive triggers and Xbox controller impulse triggers.
The PC version supports 4K resolution, uncapped frame rates, DLSS, and spatial audio. All platforms will also receive bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, with a full list of technical changes to be announced upon each platform's update release. Before the launch of the new title Metro 2039, players can also use this update to return to Artyom's post-apocalyptic world.
