The unofficial PC port of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is reportedly in the late stages of development and may be released soon, though there is no confirmed release date yet. This is a fan or community-led porting effort, distinct from the original game released on Nintendo Switch in 2023.
The original is a 2D platformer. Players control characters like Mario to explore the Flower Kingdom, where Wonder Flowers cause changes to objects and environments within levels. The game supports both single-player and local multiplayer modes.
This port does not use an emulator; instead, it converts the game code into native executable code for PCs. The project also utilizes the Switch version's C++ code and builds the Windows version using clang-cl.
In terms of graphics processing, the project reconstructs the original NVN graphics commands and rewrites them into Vulkan instructions via a custom translation layer. On Windows, these graphics calls can interact directly with NVIDIA drivers.
There are currently no reports of Nintendo's involvement or endorsement of this project. Other Switch titles, such as Super Mario Odyssey, also have unofficial ports in development, but these are separate projects from the Super Mario Bros. Wonder port.
