Recently, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, revealed that the game will feature a dramatic confrontation with Sephiroth, which he expects to surpass the scale of the first two entries in the Remake trilogy. When discussing the final chapter's content, he also introduced the main story pacing, side quest battles, and Zack's playable segment.
Naoki Hamaguchi mentioned that the development team has been working together for about 10 to 12 years. This long-term collaboration has built up experience and established his trust in the team. He believes other teams would find it difficult to directly replicate this trilogy's production approach, as a stable development environment and consistent leadership are hard to reproduce.
In terms of pacing, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis continues the approach of its predecessors: the main story maintains a relatively tight narrative structure, while players can still explore the map and engage in side content. Regarding the impending threat of the meteor, the writers and team also considered the characters' motivations for continuing to participate in other activities.
Naoki Hamaguchi stated that Weapons in the main story will be beatable for most players, while those in side quests will be more challenging, each featuring unique mechanics or interactive elements. He also revealed that Zack's playable portion will be more extensive than in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with its own combat system and progression opportunities.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis will launch on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Switch 2 on April 8, 2027. Cloud remains the protagonist of this title, with other characters also receiving more spotlight.
