Recently, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, addressed player concerns regarding graphics and optimization across multiple platforms: different teams handle gameplay content and optimization separately. He hopes players won't worry excessively about multi-platform development.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 on April 8, 2027. Some players are concerned that the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S and Switch 2 could affect optimization for each version and even impact overall visual quality.
In an interview with RPG Site, Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the team has been reading player comments and noticed concerns about whether the game would run on lower-spec hardware. According to his explanation of their workflow, one group focuses on gameplay content while another team is dedicated solely to optimization.
A Wccftech editor reported playing the PS5 Pro version for about an hour at gamescom 2026 and was impressed by the visuals at the time. However, this preview was limited to the PS5 Pro; the final performance on Xbox Series S and Switch 2 remains to be seen in future live demonstrations.
