Recently, Michael Wolf, the original level designer for "Heroes of Might and Magic III," played the remastered version. He expressed his appreciation for the new graphics while reminding the development team to address the issue of trees obscuring map resources. He also hoped the game would feature the original soundtrack.
The visual style of "Heroes of Might and Magic III: Remastered" previously sparked disagreement among fans of the original game. The development team stated they would listen to player feedback and adjust the style accordingly, acknowledging that finding the right visual style is not easy. Wolf uploaded his playthrough to YouTube, sharing his thoughts on the graphics and specific design elements.
Wolf believes the new graphics are clear and more colorful than the original. He also noted that the 3D animations are smooth and the camera can zoom in. However, he reminded the development team to check whether resources on the map are obscured by trees. Based on his observations, the game seems to lack map rotation, which could make it difficult for players to spot resources if they are blocked, thereby affecting their ability to read the map.
He also mentioned that some unit animations could still be polished; for example, the Pikeman's idle animation makes it look like it's struggling to breathe. The original development team encountered similar issues. As for the soundtrack, Wolf hopes the development team can obtain permission to use the original music composed by Paul Anthony Romero. He believes the current music isn't bad, but it cannot replace the original tracks he is familiar with.
