Section 9 Interactive released a patch the day after At the End of the Abyss launched, fixing incorrect map markers and several other issues. With exploration and backtracking at its core, the map problems criticized in earlier reviews could affect players' decisions on which path to take.
During playtesting, the reviewer found that some doors were already unlocked, yet the map still showed them as locked; after finding keys for specific doors, the map might not provide corresponding prompts. The game requires players to frequently take circuitous routes back to previous areas. After a long backtrack, the reviewer discovered that the map markers used for route planning were incorrect.
After At the End of the Abyss launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store, the map issues were quickly fixed. The reviewer stated that a significant portion of their article, published two days prior, no longer accurately reflected the experience players would encounter starting from that point.
During the review period, the reviewer also encountered a bug where a boss failed to drop a quest item. This issue was fixed hours before submission, so it was not listed as a problem persisting after release. The reviewer noted that it is relatively rare for issues heavily criticized in reviews, such as map errors, to be resolved immediately after launch.
