SEGA has announced the release of "Infinite Blue," a porcelain statue commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Sonic series. Produced by the Japanese porcelain brand YOYOYO, this limited edition of 50 pieces worldwide will be sold in Japan for 1 million yen each, with sales starting on October 9.
The statue's blue hue is created using "gosu," a cobalt-based mineral pigment. SEGA and YOYOYO state that this pigment produces a fade-resistant blue. Production was a collaboration between two kilns associated with Arita Town in Saga Prefecture, Japan: 224porcelain handled the design, combining traditional Hizen Yoshida ware techniques with 3D digital technology, while Riso Kiln was responsible for painting and final finishing.
Starting October 9, the statue will be displayed at the Sonic-themed pop-up exhibition at Parco Shopping Center in Ikebukuro, where five units will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. On the same day, applications for a lottery purchase will open on the official YOYOYO online store, with shipping available to Asia, the Americas, Europe, and Australia.
