The first episode of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 had an advance screening on September 30. Game*Spark, one of the foreign media outlets attending the screening, commented that compared to the previous work which emphasized emotional connections between characters, the sequel's premiere highlights the cold and ruthless side of Night City.
In the first episode, the camera held by the character Roman depicts individuals being manipulated by the city. The author also noted that the gore is more intricate and gloomy than in the previous work, with voice actors' portrayals of pain and terror enhancing this feeling; action scenes are more radical, employing more static shots and strong contrasts.
During the post-screening Q&A, producer Satoru Honma stated that there were initially no plans for a sequel, but the sequel project was launched before the original series aired. Screenwriter Masahiko Otsuka explained that CDPR wanted the new work to unfold as an ensemble drama, citing Pulp Fiction and Léon: The Professional as references.
The new work is directed by Hiromi Igarashi, with musician Tsuneo Imahori composing the soundtrack. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 20.
