Activision's Halo project is reportedly considering a full franchise reboot, focusing on Master Chief's origins. This claim comes from leaker RebsGaming, who emphasized that the project is still in its early stages and plans may change.
According to the leaker's sources, two separate game concepts were proposed in the early stages: a free-to-play multiplayer title and a game focused on a single-player campaign. Sledgehammer Games reportedly designed and prototyped core gameplay mechanics, such as character movement, for both directions.
Subsequently, the team reportedly abandoned the idea of developing two separate games, shifting instead toward a single Halo title with comprehensive content. There have also been varying accounts regarding the narrative direction: an earlier proposal suggested skipping the events of Halo Infinite while retaining lore from earlier entries, whereas the latest reports point to a full reboot centered on Master Chief's origins. None of these have been finalized as definite product designs or narrative arrangements.
Activision head Rob Kostich previously stated publicly that the company aims to create a Halo game worthy of the franchise's legacy and has begun assembling a dedicated team. This statement did not confirm the prototype, format, or reboot direction mentioned in the leaks.
