SNK Plans November Launch of NeoGeo AES+ Full-Size Replica, Claims Compatibility with Original AES Cartridges

SNK and Plaion Replay plan to launch the NeoGeo AES+ on November 12, 2026, with the new system claiming compatibility with legacy AES cartridges. It is based on the original Neo-Geo AES released in 1990; the U.S. Gold System bundle originally cost $649.99, which, adjusted for exchange rates and inflation, would be roughly equivalent to €1,300 in 2026.

The Neo-Geo AES launched in Japan on April 26, 1990, priced at ¥58,000. It shared a very similar architecture with the arcade Neo-Geo MVS, aiming to provide a nearly identical gaming experience at home. The U.S. Gold System bundle included the console, a joystick, a memory card, and one game; cartridges alone sold for around $200 at the time.

Unlike the home console strategies of Nintendo and Sega at the time, the Neo-Geo AES focused on delivering an arcade-like experience. Notable titles include the Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, and Samurai Shodown series, as well as later releases like Metal Slug.

The NeoGeo AES+ is a full-size replica that uses dedicated hardware rather than simple software emulation, and supports 1080p HDMI output. Planned prices are €199.99 for the console with joystick, €299.99 for the Anniversary Edition, and €899.99 for the Ultimate Edition, which includes multiple accessories and ten reproduced cartridges.
