Marvel has unveiled the first images from the comic Midnight Spider-Man, depicting an episode in young Peter Parker's life within the Midnight Universe. Before Uncle Ben's death and Peter gaining his superpowers, he first experienced the loss of his pet Dog.exe.
In the image, Peter returns from vacation to find his beloved pet Dog.exe dead, its body having been left in the house for some time. A spider crawls out of the Dog.exe's eye socket. The story also mentions that Peter had previously failed to secure his home, leading to grave consequences.
It is currently uncertain whether the spider that crawled out of the corpse is the one that granted Peter his powers. The new imagery presents a darker, horror-tinged narrative direction for the Midnight Universe; Midnight Fantastic Four #1 and Midnight X-Men #1 also showcase character encounters different from their usual versions.
Midnight Spider-Man #1 is scheduled for release by Marvel Comics on October 7. Whether there is a connection between the spider and Peter gaining his powers remains to be revealed in future installments.
