It has been nearly two years since the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Due to poor reviews and sales, the series appears to have come to an end. Currently, BioWare is still operational and developing a new Mass Effect game, with new information expected to be announced on November 7th (N7 Day). Meanwhile, the Dragon Age series has received a new update, though it may not be what you expect.
Dragon Age: Inquisition is the predecessor to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Unlike The Veilguard, it achieved both critical and commercial success. Moreover, it has been out for 12 years.
BioWare hasn't undertaken any new development for this title; they have simply updated Dragon Age: Inquisition's Steam Deck support. Previously, the game's Steam page listed Steam Deck support as "Unsupported," but it now shows as "Playable."
Unfortunately, it has not yet received Steam Deck verification, and unless the game is re-released in some form, this situation may never change.
According to Steam Deck HQ, the game previously failed to run on Proton, but this issue has been fixed. However, Valve states that there are still some lingering problems. For instance, Valve points out that the in-game text is too small, which severely impacts the RPG experience on a handheld device, given the game's lengthy playtime and substantial amount of text. Additionally, controller icons sometimes display incorrectly.
Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2026
Will Dragon Age: Inquisition still hold up in 2026? The answer is yes. Admittedly, the game features some slightly outdated design elements, but its success hinges on its story, characters, world-building, setting, and overall writing. It continues to excel in these areas, and that has never changed.
