New Poster for 'Avengers 5' Released, Tagline Convinces Fans of Scarlet Witch's Return

Marvel Studios unveiled a new poster for "Avengers 5: Doomsday" during Malaga Comic-Con. Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom stands in the foreground, with three Latverian witches wearing metal masks behind him. Their appearance has sparked fan speculation about whether the Scarlet Witch will return.

When Marvel released the poster, the caption mentioned "Witch Season." Some fans speculated that Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, might return in the film. Regarding the other two masked figures, there are various guesses involving Sylvie from "Loki," as well as characters like Agatha and Clea.

Marvel has not yet confirmed the identities of the three witches or their roles in the plot. "Witch Season" could simply refer to the Latverian witches already shown in the poster, and cannot be taken as proof of Wanda's return. The film is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.

Foreign media reports:

Fans are eagerly anticipating every aspect of "Avengers 5," from seeing Robert Downey Jr. back on the big screen in the MCU to discovering which unannounced characters might make secret appearances. Recently, however, a fan theory has gone viral, becoming a hot topic: whether Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will return after her sacrifice in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."

Currently, Marvel has not officially confirmed her return. However, many fans believe she never truly left the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Furthermore, there are many reasons to think Doctor Doom is the most likely path for her return, the most important being their significant history together in the comics.

Marvel Studios' official Twitter account released a new poster for "Avengers 5" with the caption: "From Malaga Comic-Con. Witch Season is here."It was this caption that caught fans' attention, leading them to speculate once again about Wanda's whereabouts. Admittedly, it has been officially confirmed that witches will appear in "Avengers 5," as Latverian witches have appeared in multiple works before. With this in mind, this news might have nothing to do with Wanda. However, many people disagree, and their reasons are quite compelling.

Marvel's emphasis on the witch is at least intentional

Whether Wanda will truly appear in "Doomsday" remains to be seen when the movie is released; for now, no one can say for sure. While this promotional tagline is eye-catching, it by no means confirms her imminent return. However, it certainly seems like a deliberate attempt by Marvel to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Marvel knows exactly how fans will react to this news, especially with the emphasis on the word "witch," so it's safe to say they sparked this discussion intentionally. But that doesn't mean Wanda is actually returning. In fact, it's likely just hype, nothing more. If that turns out to be the case, it would be very disappointing.

If Wanda does return, whether in "Vision Quest," "Doomsday," or other projects, some will inevitably argue it's merely pandering to fans. This argument may hold some weight, but it's undeniable that her return also makes logical sense. First, fans are clearly eager for her comeback, which would undoubtedly be a huge success for Marvel. Second, and perhaps more importantly, it makes narrative sense. Wanda and Doctor Doom have a (very complex) relationship in the comics, so this connection has precedent. Moreover, even years after her on-screen death, her story doesn't seem to have ended. Especially with Billy, Vision, and Tommy all returning between "Agatha All Along" and "Vision Quest," it feels like there is still much to explore with her character—perhaps this time, her story won't end in destruction after enduring countless painful losses.

The three witches fans are guessing:
