Sam Houser, co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, has withdrawn from an exclusive GTA 6 interview due to "personal reasons."
When it comes to Rockstar Games, players know that the developer has always been extremely low-key, consistently staying behind the scenes to focus on development. This approach is particularly evident in the marketing for GTA 6: the studio has kept public communication to a minimum, only beginning to grant media interviews in recent months.
While hearing behind-the-scenes insights from the developers of this global blockbuster is certainly refreshing, what many GTA fans were most eager to hear was the voice of current Rockstar president Sam Houser. Not long ago, this interview was confirmed to proceed, but it has now been officially canceled.
With GTA 6's promotional coverage currently in full swing, it is widely expected within the industry that several major media outlets will be involved. Game Informer is one of them, having released a lengthy preview earlier this week; another is GQ, which has previously published detailed, in-depth interviews ahead of Rockstar's major releases.
GQ contributor Sam White confirmed on Twitter that an interview was indeed originally scheduled as part of the GTA 6 promotional campaign, with unexpected changes occurring only recently. White stated that his team had been "in discussions for four years" to arrange this exclusive interview with Sam Houser, finally confirming it would take place this April. Unfortunately, the studio president has now withdrawn from the interview due to "personal reasons."
The specific reasons for Houser canceling the interview remain unclear, as "personal reasons" can cover a wide range of situations, but overall, it isn't entirely surprising. Dan Houser has been making frequent public appearances recently, while Sam Houser has always been more reserved and introverted. Hearing from this key figure at Rockstar would have been a major highlight, but it seems that won't be happening anytime soon.
