Alan Wake 2 stands as Remedy Entertainment's pinnacle achievement to date, even when considering the critically acclaimed Control: Resonance. The game is a masterclass in crafting horror atmosphere and controlling narrative pacing, so learning that Game Director Kyle Rowley has been working on a new project for nearly two years is truly exciting.
This news was first reported by gaming media outlet Wccftech. Checking Kyle Rowley's LinkedIn profile reveals that his latest project at Remedy is an "unannounced game," where he has served as Co-Director since January 2025—nearly two years now. Rowley hasn't disclosed specific details about this title or named his co-director. However, considering Sam Lake did not participate in directing Control: Resonance, I suspect he will once again partner with Rowley on this project.
Even if this new title isn't the highly anticipated Alan Wake 3 crafted by the duo, the co-director lineup of Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley is exciting enough on its own. It's worth noting, however, that Rowley served as Co-Director on Alan Wake 2 for six years, which suggests this mysterious new project may still be quite some time away from being unveiled.
We also learned that Remedy is currently developing remakes of the first two Max Payne games. If I were to predict Remedy's development pace over the next five years, I'd bet they'll release the Max Payne remakes first, using them to keep fans engaged while Kyle Rowley's new project nears completion.
In any case, the ending of Control: Resonance has me eagerly anticipating Remedy's next move. I'm also confident that Control: Resonance will receive DLC down the line. Both Control and Alan Wake 2 received two expansions after their releases, so there's no reason Control: Resonance would be an exception. It might even hide some foreshadowing, setting up a connection with the next mainline title.
