After Four Years Off the Market, 'Doctor Who' Game Returns to Humble Store with Bella Ramsey

Doctor Who: Infinite is a narrative-driven, episodic match-3 puzzle game that was delisted in 2022 when developer Tiny Rebel Games' license with the BBC expired. If you missed this title, hailed by Doctor Who Magazine as "the best Doctor Who story in gaming history," you can now purchase it from the Humble Bundle store for just $12.

The game's voice cast features original actors from multiple series: Michelle Gomez voices Missy, Ingrid Oliver voices Petronella Osgood, Katy Manning voices Jo Grant, and Richard Franklin voices Mike Yates. Bella Ramsey, known for her roles in The Last of Us and Game of Thrones, also joins the cast, voicing the original character Freya.

The game description states: "Each level offers different gameplay mechanics with gradually increasing difficulty, while the iconic movable block mechanism makes it easy for players of all experience levels to get started." In Infinite, characters such as the Daleks, Missy, Jo Grant, and the Doctor appear directly on the board, and players must face various obstacles like robots, bombs, firewalls, and time vortices.

"This title is designed for adult Doctor Who fans, brought to life by renowned writers, artists, and actors from the Doctor Who expanded universe. It features a series of new adventures incorporating mature, dramatic themes suitable for players who appreciate such content."

Infinite includes five stories: In The Orphans of Putersha, the Third Doctor and Jo Grant are drawn into World War II before traveling back to 1842; in The Horror of Flat Holm, the Fourth Doctor, Sergeant Benton, and Captain Mike Yates investigate a mysterious incident involving Cybermen, while Osgood and Kate Stewart deal with the aftermath in the present day; The Lady of the Lake follows the Tenth Doctor and Rose as they encounter an alien war in a small Welsh village; The Silent Streets of Barry Island sees the Eleventh Doctor, Amy, and Rory investigating a series of horrifying deaths and disappearances; and finally, in Dalek Time Invasion, the Twelfth Doctor, Missy, Bill, and Nardol must confront a new Dalek hybrid born on the "edge of the Time War."

However, despite Doctor Who Magazine calling these stories "the best Doctor Who plots in gaming history"—though there aren't many competitors in this genre to begin with, and I personally enjoy the Adventures series—player reviews have been mixed. Before being delisted, Infinite held a "Mixed" rating on Steam, with players criticizing the gameplay as "repetitive and dull" and noting that the "story lasts only 30 minutes." Even positive reviews admitted the game was "quite boring," though they all acknowledged that the "story itself is of high quality."
