Ubisoft Positions Motherbrain as a Group-Level Team to Drive Generative Gameplay Technology Sharing

Recent reports suggest that Ubisoft is positioning its internal project, Motherbrain, as a group-wide team to support its studios in exploring generative gameplay. Ubisoft aims to apply the generative AI capabilities developed by this team to as many games as possible, enabling technology sharing across different studios.

An internal Ubisoft announcement, relayed by the media, stated that Motherbrain will continue developing proprietary AI technologies and middleware for generative gameplay, providing a shared technical foundation for all studios. Multiple sources indicated that Ubisoft internally regards this initiative as equally important to its creative departments and core services.

Reports indicate that Motherbrain will be led by Xavier Manzanares, a 23-year Ubisoft veteran. He previously contributed to the Mario + Rabbids series and has recently overseen Ubisoft's generative AI R&D efforts, including the Teammates and Neo NPC projects.

Developers interviewed stated that generative AI has already appeared in multiple stages of Ubisoft's development process, with numerous related presentations at the company's annual game developer conference. This comes amid Ubisoft's ongoing cost-cutting measures, with the company targeting an additional €180 million in savings. Currently, there is no specific list of games adopting Motherbrain technology or an implementation timeline.
