Warner Bros. and Paramount Skydance have officially merged, with the new company named "Skydance." It includes Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, HBO Max, and other business units formerly under Warner Bros. Discovery. Following the merger, former DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran will continue in their roles.
DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran held a successful meeting with Skydance CEO David Ellison. They will remain as heads of DC Studios, continuing to oversee the core division responsible for film, series, and comic development, carrying on their creative work, and now reporting directly to Paramount Pictures Co-Chairmen Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.
James Gunn's continued tenure has disappointed many DC fans, who say this means the DCEU is completely dead:
International fans have stated that DC needs to find its own Kevin Feige—someone who can oversee the big picture without directing films themselves. Let James Gunn continue building his DC Universe, but on a smaller scale. Expand Reeves' Batman Universe. Bring in directors like Zack Snyder to make standalone films in parallel universes.
Gunn and Safran's contracts are set to expire next August.
