Red Barrels' co-op survival horror game Outlast: The Trial has set a new record for peak concurrent players on PC via Steam, reaching 94,507.
Outlast: The Trial hits an all-time low of 13 CNY with a 90% Steam discount, reaching nearly 100,000 concurrent players
Outlast: The Trial is a first-person co-op horror game set against the backdrop of the Cold War. Players take on the role of subjects undergoing brainwashing and psychological manipulation experiments conducted by the mysterious Murkoff Corporation, and must cooperate with up to four other players to face a series of insane challenges.
Since the start of the 90% discount promotion on October 1, the player count has surged. Compared to the peak of approximately 37,000 players shortly after the early access launch in May 2023, the player count has increased by about 2.6 times, indicating an unprecedented surge in popularity more than three years after the game's release.
The sudden surge in player count is due to the game's 90% discount and a major update featuring the new event, "Chemical Leak."
Outlast: The Trial is available at a 90% discount on Steam in the China region, reaching an all-time low price of just 13.6 CNY. The promotion runs until October 9.
The limited-time event "Chemical Leak" is an in-game event that will end on October 6 at 10:00 AM (ET). This event features special rules where the trial areas are filled with toxic gas released by the Murkoff Corporation, and players must find and close valves scattered throughout the area to survive.
During the event, a limited-time "Chemical Leak" catalog will be available. Players can use event tokens earned from challenges to unlock exclusive rewards. Please note that all unused event tokens will expire after the event ends, so it is recommended to use them during the event period.
New MK Challenges added, with adjustments made to prioritize fairness
This update not only includes the event but also adds two new MK Challenges: "Change of Plans" and "Fundraising for the Event."
Additionally, balance adjustments and stability improvements have been made to the "Invasion" and "Upgrade" modes to enhance the gaming experience. To prevent some players from gaining an unfair advantage and maintain game fairness, we have discontinued support for mods. Key features such as field of view (FOV) and camera shake have been integrated into the standard in-game settings menu.
