Aion 2 held limited-time tests on September 17 and 19. A 4Gamer author who participated in the test stated that the game's open-world map is approximately 36 times larger than that of its predecessor, and the game offers two combat control modes.
This test took place before the game launched its global service in regions such as Japan. The story is set in a world 200 years after the collapse of the previous game, Aion. Players can choose between the Elyos or Asmodians factions, each with its own introductory storyline. The test allowed players to experience eight classes, character creation, and the flight ability unlocked after character awakening.
In addition to expanding the open-world areas, the map now includes sky islands. Fast travel points, automatic quest pathfinding, point-and-click movement on the map, and mounts provide various ways to traverse the large map.
Combat offers two modes: a traditional target-selection mode and a more direct control scheme. The preview author preferred the latter, noting that it allows for continuous triggering of common attacks with the mouse and makes camera rotation more convenient. The test also showcased gathering, crafting, dungeon sealing, and automatic chat translation features. The author felt that the scenes and character models rendered in Unreal Engine 5 were of high quality, resulting in a comfortable overall gameplay experience.
The total duration of this test was approximately 12 hours. The preview author was unable to experience party expeditions and certain PvP content, which require higher character levels to unlock.
