Overwatch showcased a batch of limited-edition skins for the Chinese market, sparking dissatisfaction among some overseas players who cannot access these cosmetics in their regions. Shion's "Evolution" skin, in particular, has drawn significant attention, with its acquisition method and cost becoming topics of discussion.
This batch of cosmetics includes items for D.Mon, Kiriko, Reaper, Emre, and Shion. Shion's skin features significant changes to the character's model, along with new visual effects and sound effects. These cosmetics are tied to the partnership with NetEase, whose team handled the design. Previously, players had discussed issues such as recolors, the quality of certain skins, and the frequent release of high-tier skins for a select few characters.
The acquisition method has yet to be confirmed. Players claim that the related cosmetics reportedly require gacha pulls using premium currency, rather than direct purchase; every ten pulls guarantee one Legendary cosmetic, but do not guarantee the desired skin.
Reddit users estimated that obtaining all event rewards, including Shion's skin, could cost between $125 and $165 based on bundle pricing. Some Chinese players have also voiced concerns about the gacha mechanics.
