Tencent's "Monster Hunter: Traveler" Required to Be Unique and Innovative; Six Years of Development with Daily Meetings

The international version of Monster Hunter Travelers, a new IP title jointly developed by Capcom and Tencent TiMi, will launch on iOS and Android mobile devices on October 29. Development began in 2020 and has lasted approximately six years, with Capcom deeply involved in supervision throughout the process and maintaining high-density communication between both parties.

Capcom producer Genki Suno revealed in an interview that communication between the two teams was intense, with meetings held almost every day and frequent synchronization via email and instant messaging. Despite the close communication, there were no major conflicts. Whenever development content deviated from the philosophy of the Monster Hunter series, Capcom promptly provided feedback and worked with TiMi to make adjustments.

Capcom set dual standards for the project: on one hand, strictly preserving the "Monster Hunter core" to ensure the worldview, action feel, and hunting gameplay remain authentic, allowing veteran players to immediately recognize it as Monster Hunter. On the other hand, they clearly stated a mandatory requirement from the outset—not to create just another ordinary Monster Hunter game, but to deliver unique innovations difficult to achieve in mainline titles, polishing distinctive features exclusive to this game.

Set on the original island of Eso Island, Monster Hunter Travelers features a new monster ecosystem and original monsters, while retaining core gameplay elements such as classic weapons, hunting, and gathering/crafting. The controls have been specifically adapted for mobile devices. A PC (WeGame) version is also in development. The release date for the Chinese server has not been announced yet, but it is expected to launch in 2027. The overseas version will be free-to-play, with global pre-registrations already exceeding 8 million.

Genki Suno stated that this title must preserve the soul of the series while leaving room for TiMi to innovate, exploring new possibilities for mobile hunting under the premise of maintaining the authentic "Monster Hunter" feel.
