Chinese Anti-Japanese War FPS 'The Resister' Offers More Than Just Large-Scale Battles: Some Things Must Not Be Forgotten

Recently, Kong Yuheng, producer of the domestic Chinese War of Resistance FPS The Resisters, gave an interview to the Japanese media outlet GameSpark, sharing insights on the original creative intent, gameplay design, historical research philosophy, and considerations for Japanese localization, while also sending a message to Japanese players.

The Resisters is set in China during the 1930s and 1940s. While many WWII-themed games on the market focus on the European theater, FPS titles that directly depict the Chinese front of the War of Resistance are rare, which was a key reason for the team's choice of subject matter. Kong Yuheng stated that this history holds profound significance for China and contains many stories worth telling. The team hopes to use the game to introduce overseas players to this relatively unfamiliar perspective, offering an experience different from traditional WWII shooters.

In terms of historical creation, the development team referenced a vast amount of public historical materials and video records, and conducted field research to recreate period details as accurately as possible. However, the project does not simply copy historical texts; instead, it uses the historical background as the foundation of the story, making reasonable adjustments to level pacing and gameplay to achieve a natural fusion of historical context and gaming experience. Game characters are shaped based on the characteristics of the era, rather than being exact replicas of real historical figures, focusing on depicting how the fates of ordinary people and families are changed by war, integrating character narratives into the FPS combat flow.

In terms of gameplay, this title is not limited to large-scale frontal battles. In addition to massive gunfights, it includes stealth infiltration, small-scale skirmishes, and other forms of combat. Players need to flexibly switch tactics based on the battlefield environment, with the pace of experience dynamically changing according to the situation, enriching the diversity of combat.

For the Japanese market, the team places great emphasis on the quality of Japanese localization. For historical and military terminology, they repeatedly verify content against historical records and professional materials to ensure rigor and accuracy. At the same time, they avoid stiff literal translations, balancing natural and fluent Japanese expression to allow Japanese players to understand the game content smoothly.

Kong Yuheng also shared a message with Japanese players: "As a work born in China, we are diligently polishing the game itself while honestly telling stories rooted in this land and era. Excellent games can transcend language and borders, allowing players from different regions to look back on the past and encounter stories they were previously unaware of. Some stories should not be forgotten, and we have chosen games as a way to pass them on to more people. We look forward to meeting you all in the world of The Resisters."
