If you own a 2020 Samsung TV, there's some bad news for you: although the TV itself will continue to function normally, one of its popular features is about to disappear. Starting November 3, 2026, Xbox Cloud Gaming will no longer be available on these older Samsung TVs, meaning users will no longer be able to play Xbox games directly through the TV app without a console. Samsung TVs released in 2021 and later will continue to be supported.
This change comes from emails sent by Microsoft to affected users. According to the explanation in the emails, technical updates to Xbox Cloud Gaming will make the service incompatible with the operating systems used by these TVs.
Windows Central further clarified that new features of the service require updated Chromium APIs, which Samsung has no plans to provide via system updates for 2020 models. Therefore, this discontinuation of support is related to software compatibility issues with the TVs, not an inability of the screens to display game footage.
Windows Central initially suggested cost-cutting as a possible reason, but later updated its report stating that its sources ruled out any plans by Microsoft to terminate the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, attributing the adjustment instead to compatibility issues with Samsung TVs. Users with 2020 Samsung TV models can check before November 3 to see if their specific model is affected.
