Hollywood is continuously tapping into the rich reservoir of game IPs, adapting more titles for film and television. The popular shooters Arc Raiders and The Finals are next in line to hit the big and small screens.
In a press release, Chernin Entertainment, the production company behind the hit horror IP The Backrooms and Netflix's The Last House, announced a partnership with Nexon, the parent company of Embark, the developer of Arc Raiders and The Finals. It remains unclear whether both games will receive simultaneous film and series adaptations, or if Chernin plans to adapt one into a series and the other into a film, but this undoubtedly represents a major investment in Embark's two highly popular shooters.
Patrick Söderlund, Founder and CEO of Embark, commented: "The partnership between Nexon and Chernin Entertainment is a significant step toward creating deeply integrated cross-media experiences for Arc Raiders and The Finals, giving back to the love of our global player community. Throughout this process, Embark Studios' creative team will work closely with Chernin to ensure the core creative essence of both IPs is preserved as they transition to new mediums."
Arc Raiders, released in 2025, is set in the year 2180. Decades earlier, a mysterious robot army known as "ARC" descended upon Earth, crushing human resistance forces and forcing everyone into underground shelters. In the game, players take on the role of Raiders who must venture back to the surface to gather resources for trade, which forms the core gameplay loop. The Finals, launched in 2023, plunges players into a dystopian world in the year 2100, where they compete for survival in a virtual reality combat arena show.
David Ready, President of Chernin Entertainment's film division, stated: "Arc Raiders and The Finals represent exactly the kind of target Chernin Entertainment has long pursued—potential IPs with global impact that can grow into top-tier franchises spanning film and TV. The worlds crafted by Nexon and Embark are visually stunning and atmospherically unique, holding countless stories worth telling. We are honored by their trust in us to assemble our film and TV teams to bring these stories to life."
