Denuvo has filed an application with the U.S. Federal Court in California, requesting permission to obtain data from Discord, Valve, and Reddit before the start of the regular discovery phase, in order to uncover the true identity of the anonymous cracking hacker known as Voices38. The court has not yet decided whether to approve the request.
Last month, Denuvo sued Voices38 under the provisions of the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act regarding the circumvention of technological protection measures, alleging that they bypassed Anti-Tamper protection in 26 games, including Hogwarts Legacy and Black MYTH - Steam Edition: Wukong. The lawsuit listed one Discord identity, one Reddit account, and seven Steam accounts, but Denuvo still does not know the defendant's real name.
Denuvo stated that it had previously requested information directly from the relevant platforms. Valve and Reddit indicated that legal basis was required, while Discord reportedly did not respond. This application seeks to obtain account registration details, payment methods, transaction records, timestamped IP addresses, and device identifiers from Valve, as well as corresponding account activity data from Discord and Reddit.
The newly submitted materials also mention that Denuvo identified transactions via FixedFloat involving Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, but did not explain how these transactions are linked to Voices38 or whether they could help confirm their identity. Currently, the requests for data from the three platforms are still awaiting a court ruling.
