A recent internal memo, allegedly leaked by a GameStop employee, shows that the company required stores to raise the price of used PS5 Pro consoles before opening on October 6, with digital editions starting at $1,399.99 and disc editions at $1,499.99. The memo specifically notes that the higher price for used units compared to new ones is intentional. It lists the current new PS5 Pro price at $899.
The items listed in the memo at $1,399.99 include the white Digital Edition, the 30th Anniversary Digital Edition, and certain Wolverine-themed Digital Editions; the corresponding disc edition items are priced at $1,499.99. The table also lists trade-in values of $800 for the Digital Edition and $850 for the Disc Edition.
The memo also mentions that GameStop's product exchange program will be temporarily suspended following the price adjustment, with plans to restore it as soon as possible. As this document is currently leaked material, it remains to be verified whether stores are complying with the requirements and what the actual selling prices are.
The PS5 Pro launched in the US in November 2024 for $699, with Sony raising the price in August 2025 and again in April 2026. Regarding the unusually high second-hand prices, the author believes that the impending release of GTA VI, players upgrading their consoles, and limited supply of new units may have jointly driven up demand.
