The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is scheduled to launch about two weeks before GTA 6. Aakash Gupta, former producer of Fortnite, believes that Nintendo has a sufficiently loyal player base to dare make this arrangement.
The close release windows of the two titles have sparked discussions about whether they will compete for players' attention. On social media, Gupta compared the choice of release dates to a "game of chicken": once a major title locks in its release date, other publishers must reassess their positioning.
Gupta believes that GTA 6 will not run on Nintendo hardware, and the overlap between the audiences of the two titles is limited. Releasing earlier also allows The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake to capture about two weeks of attention. He also cited the Metacritic score of the original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the early sales figures of Grand Theft Auto V to demonstrate the market appeal of both titles.
