Sega's newly launched official Sonic Discord server has restricted chat permissions and enabled slow mode due to an influx of violating content and spam. Eight out of the nine chat channels are locked for most users.
The server was originally intended for players to discuss the Sonic series and even mentioned finding opponents for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. According to the server announcement, over 50,000 people joined within hours of opening. During this time, some users posted inappropriate content involving pornography and racial discrimination, sparking controversy over the banning issues.
At the time of writing, the only remaining open channel was originally meant for sharing clips from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Some users asked in this channel why they couldn't speak in other channels, but these messages were subsequently deleted. Other users claimed they were banned for relatively minor remarks, though the specific reasons cannot be confirmed solely based on their accounts.
The server announcement stated that the automated moderation system is currently quite aggressive, potentially falsely banning some users, deleting all-caps messages, or misjudging harmless phrases. The management team indicated they would review bans once the situation calms down and gradually adjust the filtering rules.
