NVIDIA is now offering some homeowners the chance to participate in the ongoing AI-driven computing gold rush by installing Blackwell GPUs on their home exteriors with zero upfront payment.
SPAN has partnered with NVIDIA and PulteGroup to install wall-mounted Blackwell GPU nodes free of charge on newly built homes.
Back in April this year, NVIDIA partnered with smart power management solutions provider SPAN, along with prominent builders like PulteGroup, to launch XFRA, a distributed data center service.
Although details about NVIDIA's partnership with SPAN were scarce when first revealed in April, we now know more. Specifically, NVIDIA aims to install 16 Blackwell GPUs and 4 server CPUs (worth over $250,000) in wall-mounted, air-conditioner-sized computing units on the exterior walls of select homes.
If selected, you won't have to pay any upfront costs. More importantly, NVIDIA and SPAN will heavily subsidize your electricity and internet bills, and you can also keep a portion (not yet disclosed) of the revenue generated by this distributed computing solution installed on your wall.
The current pilot program is limited to around 100 households in a few specific communities. If the project proves commercially viable, you'll likely see more NVIDIA wall-mounted computing modules on home exteriors.
In fact, distributed computing could become as common as solar systems in the coming years, especially since each unit could operate during nighttime off-peak hours. Additionally, the system can run during the day to better utilize excess energy generated by solar panels.
