Marvel Rivals had a rocky launch, primarily due to PlayStation's strict PSN requirements and a poorly optimized PC port. However, developer Arc System Works continues to support the game in various ways, with character DLC being a key part of that effort. The team has already revealed the first new character, Cyclops, and shared some details about him ahead of the trailer release.
Arc System Works has shared more information about the character on their official Discord server. Players who join the server can view several in-game screenshots featuring this laser-wielding hero.
These three screenshots don't reveal much, but they showcase Cyclops' dive attack with Phoenix powers, fiery effects, and a wide-area eye beam, reminiscent of his Super Optic Blast in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Admittedly, there are limited ways to depict giant laser beams, but these two moves do look very similar. Given the numerous homages in Marvel Rivals, it's hard to believe this is just a coincidence.
The team previously discussed his immense power, with a PlayStation Blog announcement stating that "this version of Cyclops draws inspiration from his Phoenix Five form in Avengers vs. X-Men, showcasing a bold new look infused with the fiery cosmic power of the Phoenix Force," and players should "expect Scott Summers to bring the heat in battle."
The full trailer for Cyclops will be released at 1:00 AM Beijing Time on October 8. Although unconfirmed, the trailer will likely include his release date, as Cyclops has only been vaguely announced for a Fall 2026 launch so far.
According to the announced schedule, the Year 1 DLC will be released as follows:
October–December 2026: Cyclops
January–March 2027: Character 2
April–June 2027: Character 3 and Stage 1
July–September 2027: Character 4
