Strange Creature Factory has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for the third-person survival horror game Black Tide: Draga's Awakening, showcasing protagonist Draga transitioning from long-range shooting to close-quarters combat by transforming his arms into blades. The studio aims to release the game in early 2029, though the project is still in early development.
Set in an alternate history version of the early 20th century, the game features threats from grotesque creatures, dangerous apocalyptic cultists, and ancient deities. The developers also stated that Draga can absorb corpses to gain power, though the specific mechanics have yet to be revealed.
The seamless transition between ranged and melee attacks in the trailer draws comparisons to Bloodborne. Studio founder Gregory Strangis acknowledged in an interview with Insider Gaming that some viewers may see echoes of Bloodborne in the game. The enemy designs and cultist themes also evoke Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Strangis is a character artist who has worked on titles from Rockstar and Naughty Dog.exe, as well as film projects. Although the trailer features fairly complete combat footage, the studio is still seeking a publisher; early 2029 is the team's target release window, not a confirmed launch date.
