Jagex Announces Tentatively Titled 'RuneScape 4': Powered by Unreal Engine! Story Begins in Asgarnia

Jagex announced the fourth installment in the series, tentatively titled RuneScape 4, at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK. The new game is being developed in Unreal Engine, with the story beginning in Asgarnia during the Sixth Age. The project is still in its early stages and is still several years away from release.

The trailer revealed at the event confirmed that the new title will once again be set in Gielinor. According to Jagex, the story takes place several years after the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds and the destruction of Queen Kuldah.

Jagex hopes to start the story in Asgarnia first, then gradually expand to new locations and areas familiar to players. The company chose to announce the project early in development to involve the community in discussions, testing, and feedback.

RuneScape 4 will be developed by a dedicated team and will run alongside the existing RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Jagex stated that the new title will not replace any of these.
