Valve has changed the Steam Deck compatibility status of Final Fantasy XVI from "Unsupported" to "Verified." However, independent tests show that the game still experiences noticeable frame drops in open areas and during cutscenes. Previously, this title was listed as "Unsupported" due to its high hardware requirements.
Tests by gaming media outlets such as SteamDeckHQ show that dynamic combat scenes can maintain around 30 FPS; when exploring open areas, the frame rate may drop to 18 FPS, and during cutscenes it has been measured at approximately 13 FPS, accompanied by noticeable stuttering.
Testers also noted that the significant upscaling used to adapt the game for handheld devices makes the image appear blurry. Based on these test results, they concluded that the current experience is closer to Steam Deck's "Playable" rating. This assessment reflects the testers' evaluation of actual performance; Valve's current compatibility status remains "Verified."
