Resident Evil 9: Requiem has received widespread acclaim and is beloved by fans, but this journey is far from over. It is certain that the game will release DLC. Now, we seem to know more about the DLC, as someone involved in writing the latest Resident Evil game and its DLC accidentally revealed that Spencer will play a central role in the DLC's story.
Spencer will return in the Requiem DLC
In a convention interview shared by Distance NERDing, Haris Orkin, the writer for Requiem, casually discussed plans for the game's expansion packs.
Orkin revealed, "We designed a storyline for Spencer in Requiem. They... you'll gradually understand this, and in the Requiem DLC, you'll understand it even better," then added with a laugh, "I probably shouldn't have said that."
Spencer
Spencer does play a role in Resident Evil 9: Requiem, but only through archival footage. The story of Resident Evil 9 attempts to redeem the evil Umbrella founder to some extent. Spencer regrets the sins he brought upon the world, and the core plot of Requiem involves jointly searching for Elpis—a cure developed by Spencer intended to heal the T-Virus.
Spencer has been dead for some time since being killed by Wesker in Resident Evil 5. Now that we know we will see more about him in the Resident Evil 9: Requiem DLC, the most prevalent speculation currently is that the DLC's story is set in the past. Fans seem very eager for this DLC to delve deeper into Spencer's story, especially his incredible path to redemption.
Spencer Mansion has been removed from the base game
Well-known leaker Dusk Golem revealed that Spencer Mansion, identical to the one in the original Resident Evil, was originally planned for inclusion in Resident Evil 9: Requiem. However, for some reason, the mansion did not appear in the final release of the game. Dusk Golem questioned whether it might appear as DLC (which had not been announced at the time) and admitted at the end of the post that he was unsure if this was an official plan.
Nevertheless, this has reignited hopes for a Spencer-themed DLC, and now it seems that the DLC we will eventually receive is closer than ever before.
Orkin also mentioned that the DLC is still in the writing stage. This not only means that there is still a long way to go before the additional content for Resident Evil 9: Requiem is officially released, but also confirms previous speculation that the DLC will not be released until late 2027.
