Xbox Stance: Battle.net Won't Become Steam, Third-Party Titles to Be Introduced Cautiously

Following the addition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to Battle.net, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma discussed the platform's expansion direction. In an internal meeting, she stated that Battle.net would continue to grow but would not become another Steam; the approach of partnering with companies like CDPR to introduce games may continue, with consideration given to the existing player community when expanding the lineup.

Andrew Guerrero, Vice President of Product Management and Global Insights at Blizzard, previously expressed a similar direction. He stated that Battle.net already has a player base centered around Blizzard games and similar titles, and when selecting new games for the platform, they will consider the interests of these players rather than simply copying the broad release model of Steam or the Epic Games Store.

Currently, Battle.net offers not only Blizzard titles like World of Warcraft and Diablo IV, but also partner games such as Avowed and Sea of Thieves. The platform has yet to announce the next batch of games, their release dates, or a unified selection criteria, meaning the current lineup remains somewhat selective.
