ARK: Survival Evolved Official Switch Servers to Shut Down on August 31; Single-Player Mode Unaffected

Since ARK: Survival Evolved launched on the Switch platform in 2018, its official servers have served over one million players. In 2022, developer Grove Street Games released a complete remaster for the Switch, ARK: Ultimate Survivor Edition, which featured significant optimizations. This server shutdown will also cover this version.

In an official announcement, Studio Wildcard stated, "We announce this decision with a sense of nostalgia, thanking every player who has been part of this journey."

The developers emphasized that this shutdown only applies to official servers. Players can still experience the game through the following methods:

Single-Player Mode:Play completely offline with no impact on progress

Unofficial Servers:Player-hosted or third-party operated servers will continue to function normally

This means that although official online multiplayer functionality is ending soon, the core single-player experience and the community private server ecosystem will remain fully intact.

When ARK: Survival Evolved first launched on the Switch in 2018, it was heavily criticized for its severely downgraded graphics and poor optimization. The 2022 remaster, ARK: Ultimate Survivor Edition, significantly improved visuals and frame rates through an engine upgrade, briefly restoring the Switch version's reputation. This server shutdown decision is seen by many players as a signal that the lifecycle of the Switch version is nearing its end.

The latest entry in the ARK series, ARK: Survival Ascended, continues to receive updates, but it has not yet launched on the Switch platform.
