Developers Believe Steam Has Too Many Games, Discoverability Is a Major Industry Issue

Before the launch of the "New Beginnings" update for Lords of Albion, Peter Molyneux stated in an interview that there are too many game choices on Steam, making it difficult for players to devote attention to every title. He believes that discoverability has become a major issue in the current gaming industry.

Molyneux said that some players will repeatedly play their favorite games for a long time, barely noticing new content in the store. He cited Mushrooms & Melancholy as an example, believing that this excellent game is hidden in a less conspicuous position on Steam.

Discussing the pressures faced by small studios, Molyneux also mentioned industry layoffs. He believes that changes in the number and size of studios after the pandemic have brought difficulties; he is also concerned about the content output speed of Chinese developers.
