Sony plans to launch a dedicated Crunchyroll anime section on PS5 in spring 2027. This section will link to anime content searches, game entries inspired by anime, and app portals, making it easier for users to find related content on PS5.
In 2021, Sony-owned Funimation acquired the anime streaming service Crunchyroll for nearly $1.2 billion. Now, five years later, Crunchyroll will have its own dedicated page on the PS5 home screen in spring 2027. Hideaki Nishino, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced this news at today's Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum.
The new anime hub on PS5 promises to integrate anime, anime-adapted games, and convenient access to Crunchyroll into a one-stop service on the PS5 platform.
Crunchyroll stated, "Players will have a dedicated platform to discover anime and anime-inspired games, and easily access the full Crunchyroll app."
As of early this year, the global installed base of PS5 has exceeded 92 million units. Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, said: "From the Crunchyroll membership service on PlayStation to the upcoming 'Ghost of Tsushima: Legends' animated series, today we take our partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment a step further by launching an anime hub on PlayStation. Serving fans means engaging with them where they are."
