Before Debuting Its First Game, Gravity Well Confirms Layoffs of Over 40 Employees

Gravity Well has confirmed layoffs affecting more than 40 people, with its first game still unannounced. Studio leadership stated on October 6 that the team lost financial support this summer and has been seeking new partners since, but has not secured new funding. Most members will therefore be leaving, and the studio will continue operations with a smaller team, though its future remains uncertain.

首款游戏还没亮相,Gravity Well已确认裁员超过40人

Gravity Well was founded in 2020 by Drew McCoy and Jon Shiring, former Respawn Entertainment developers who worked on Titanfall and Apex Legends. The studio has previously emphasized its stance against excessive crunch and advocated for developers to share in game revenues. Its website lists 71 employees.

Recent social media posts from employees indicate that this round of layoffs has affected positions in animation, art, and game design, including senior roles.

The studio has not yet officially announced its first title. It is known to be a new IP developed using Unreal Engine 5. Former employees' resumes have described it as a third-person shooter; another portfolio listed it as a cooperative action game, but it remains unclear when it will be released or if it still aligns with the current development plan.
