Minecraft for Switch 2 will launch on October 27, 2026. Players who already own the digital Switch version in most regions can claim the new version for free until January 31, 2027.
The new digital version is priced at €29.99, and digital pre-orders are now open. It has not yet been confirmed whether existing physical Switch editions will be eligible for the same free upgrade. Players can transfer their old worlds and save data to Switch 2 to continue their progress.
The Switch 2 version includes Vibrant Visuals, which improve lighting, shadows, and water effects. However, this feature is not available in certain split-screen modes, as well as in some worlds or Marketplace content.
The game also includes a Super Mario-themed pack, featuring a themed world, 15 music tracks, and 40 skins. Players can also obtain community-created worlds, add-ons, skins, and texture packs from the Marketplace.
Online features include cross-platform play, local split-screen, online servers, and Realms Plus; the latter allows playing with up to 10 friends. Nintendo Switch Online is required for online multiplayer, and a Microsoft account is needed for cross-platform play.
