Mixtape, developed by Melbourne studio Beethoven & Dinosaur, won Game of the Year at the 2026 Australian Games Developer Awards, along with awards for Excellence in Visual Art and Excellence in Audio Design, bringing its total to three. It is a music-themed adventure game driven by minigames.
The awards jury praised Mixtape for its virtual storytelling, distinctive visual style, and the emotions conveyed through its music. Studio head Johnny Galvatron thanked his team after accepting the award. He noted that the project originally stemmed from an idea to create a game around Devo, and he was surprised by how much it resonated with a broader audience. The game's soundtrack features works by artists such as Devo, The Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, and Iggy Pop.
At the same ceremony, Tempo Lab Games' Beat & Notes won two awards for Gameplay and Accessibility, Abandoned Sheep's Schrödinger's Cat Burglar won the Narrative Award, and Uppercut Games received the Studio of the Year Award. The Australian Games Developer Awards are presented by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association Australia as part of Melbourne International Games Week.
