Video creator PewDiePie has launched Ajax, a local language model designed to run as a persistent assistant on home computers. He stated that his OpenAI account was banned twice during development due to using reasoning outputs from OpenAI models to create training data.
Ajax was further trained based on Alibaba's open-source model Qwen3.5-9B. Integrated with PewDiePie's previously released Odysseus workspace, it can search for information, browse websites, and handle tasks such as managing emails, calendars, and notes. Current descriptions indicate that the model can run on consumer-grade GPUs or Mac computers.
Discussing the bans, PewDiePie said his account was restored after an appeal following the first ban; he continued generating raw training data, which led to a second ban. In a video, he showed an email citing "distillation" as the reason for one of the bans. OpenAI has not publicly commented on the matter.
Ajax also uses tools to reduce refusals on certain requests, but PewDiePie stated that the model should not provide practical guidance on harming oneself or others. He noted that the project is not yet complete; the final model card, public benchmark results, confirmed weight licenses, and directly downloadable model weights have not been released.
