Responsibility for the Halo series has transferred to Activision. Previously, after the launch of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo Studios published lore articles outlining how Master Chief's story connects across games, remasters, novels, and the TV series, while leaving behind clues regarding the Xalanyn species and the "Endless."
This article was written by series writer Alex Wakeford. At the time, Halo Studios still believed it would be responsible for the Halo series; subsequent adjustments to Xbox business operations mean that the future story elements mentioned in the article now serve as a retrospective look at their original vision.
Wakeford also discussed two upcoming novels. A significant portion of editing for Halo: Noble Team has been completed, and the team hopes for its successful publication; Halo: Homecoming Burn is also in preparation. The final release arrangements for both works have yet to be confirmed.
The article also revealed official concept art of the "Progenitors" drawn by Sam Wood, concluding with clues about the Xalanyn species and the "Endless." Based on this, IGN speculated that Halo Studios' originally envisioned next game might have further explained this species. This is not the plot of any announced new title; following Activision's takeover, it remains unclear whether these elements will be retained or discarded.
