Developed by the Mo Jing team and licensed under the Taiwu IP, the Chinese-style roguelike survivor looter game "Taiwu: Otherworldly Calamity" will launch in Early Access on Steam on October 15, 2026. The game combines the dual appeal of the "Taiwu Scroll" and "Mo Jing" IPs, merging Taiwu sect martial arts and traditional culture with survivor-style wave survival and Diablo-like loot grinding, creating a new top-down Chinese-style action roguelike experience that supports up to 4-player co-op.
A Unique Taiwu Experience
The story of "Taiwu: Otherworldly Calamity" takes place in a parallel apocalyptic Jianghu: the gods are silent, and the mandate of heaven has collapsed. The player's goal is to recover scattered divine swords. Unlike the original game's text-based management and family social systems, this title focuses on combat and survival. Players can focus on loot grinding and dungeon crawling, or uncover fragmented stories of serendipitous encounters, embodying a different Taiwu experience where you "ignore Jianghu social obligations and just wield your sword to slay demons."
Chinese-Style Roguelike Hack-and-Slash Fun
In terms of gameplay, this title centers on "Chinese-style roguelike + survivor loot grinding": enter the Broken Realm秘境, kill waves of demons, gain experience, choose one of three martial arts upgrades, achieve a qualitative breakthrough when skills reach a critical point, grind for equipment and stack affixes, and face monster waves and elite bosses. After defeat or clearing the stage, you enter a cycle, unlocking character traits, spirit servants, and equipment outside the run that are permanently retained for the next attempt. The game also features multiple interacting status effects such as Divine Fire, Poison, Internal Injury, and Disorientation, along with a massive pool of random affixes for multi-tier equipment, balancing stress-relieving hack-and-slash satisfaction with deep build construction.
Co-op Division of Labor
For multiplayer, "Taiwu: Otherworldly Calamity" supports up to 4 players. Players can divide tasks, rescue downed teammates, exchange equipment, and use active items interactively while facing overwhelming monster waves. The developers state that this differentiates it from most survivor-like games on the market, which are primarily single-player.
The promotional period runs from October 15 to October 22, 2026. The game's store page, debut PV, Steam Next Fest demo video, and media kit have been released. The price in the China region is 38 CNY, with a 20% launch discount (30.4 CNY) for the first 14 days.
