According to recent reports, jailbroken PS5 consoles and associated PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts have been banned for connecting to the internet.
A post shared by an unofficial Turkish PlayStation Facebook group claims that a local PlayStation user had their PSN account permanently banned after connecting a jailbroken PS5 to the internet. According to the post, neither the user's account nor their console can access online services anymore.
The warning was issued by the Facebook group's moderator after a member posted about the incident and later deleted the post following comments from other users. The moderator stated that they wanted to inform those considering jailbreaking their PS5 consoles.
Screenshots accompanying the post show error code WS-116332-6 on the PS5, with a message stating that service access for the console has been "permanently or temporarily suspended." The affected user reportedly mentioned they had purchased the PS5 just three months ago and asked if there was any way to resolve the issue.
This incident serves as a warning to PS5 users on firmware version 13.60 or lower. Connecting a modified console to PSN online services carries significant risks, including loss of access to online features and permanent deactivation of the console itself.
Recent developments in the PS5 homebrew scene have allowed hackers to make significant breakthroughs in accessing software versions on newer consoles. A jailbreak for PS5 firmware 13.60 (only two versions behind the latest firmware 14.10) is now available. It utilizes the "relapse" exploit initially released by modders Nathan Fargo and Sonic ISO. Previously, consoles running firmware above 12.00 required about 50 minutes to load the jailbreak, whereas the new method reportedly takes only a few seconds. Notably, the new jailbreak works on both the base model and the PS5 Pro.
