New GTA 6 Screenshots Spark Discussion, Suspected to Be from PS5 Pro Version

Many PlayStation fans are eagerly awaiting the trailer for the GTA 6 PS5 Pro enhanced version. However, Rockstar may have quietly released a screenshot that gives us a glimpse of either the PS5 Pro or PC version.

Recently, Rockstar displayed a game screenshot in an article promoting the soundtrack and radio stations. This screenshot features unusually high-quality ray-traced reflections, leading Digital Foundry to believe that the ray-traced reflections represent more powerful hardware, possibly the PS5 Pro or even the PC version.

The screenshot showcases the nightlife of Vice City, with a sports car driving down the street. There's also a large puddle nearby, a scene perfect for demonstrating effects that might only be achievable on the PS5 Pro.

To gain a deeper understanding, Twitter user @videotec sought opinion from Oliver Mackenzie of Digital Foundry. After analyzing previous trailers, Mackenzie suspected that this screenshot was not actual PS5 gameplay, citing the "clarity of hardware ray-traced reflections and the overall sharpness of the image."

On the other hand, Oliver Mackenzie pointed out that some of the ray-traced reflections in the image had lower resolution. This could mean that Rockstar sacrificed some visual quality to accommodate the hardware limitations of PlayStation consoles. Another possibility is that the studio used a photo mode enabled in the development build to maximize visual fidelity.

The new GTA 6 screenshot posted on the game's soundtrack and radio page may not be the first one captured on PS5 Pro or PC. Rockstar shared 63 images in June, at which time Digital Foundry questioned whether these images represented real-time gameplay. Unlike the trailer, these screenshots did not specify the platform.

PS5 Pro

Although the PC version seems far off, the release date for the PS5 Pro enhanced version is just around the corner. However, neither Rockstar nor Sony has revealed what advantages this hardware will bring. As is customary with their flagship consoles, the PlayStation Official Blog may announce these details shortly before the game's release.

Due to the lack of further information, it is difficult to predict performance differences between platforms. Rockstar co-head Rob Nelson has hinted that the target frame rate for all console platforms is 30fps.
